Seshadri Ramkumar

Dr. Seshadri Ramkumar

Texas Tech University


Ramkumar holds a Ph.D. from University of Leeds, UK and is a full professor of technical textiles at Texas Tech University, where his work centers on advanced materials and functional finishing of fibrous materials. Two of his inventions are FiberTect, a toxic chemical decontamination wipe; and Towelie wipe, an oil absorbent. He is an Honorary Fellow of Textile Association (India) and received TAPPI’s Mark Wollingsworth Technical Prize for nonwoven research. Through his column “TexSnips,” he disseminates news on textile R&D around the world.

David McDonald

David McDonald

JDMcD Consulting Inc.


McDonald is the President of JDMcD Consulting Inc. and an adjunct professor in chemical engineering at McMaster University. Previously he worked at FPInnovations as vice-president, University Programs and Strategic Partnerships, at Paprican, as vice-president, Research and Education and at Abitibi-Price, as a research associate/mathematician.  He also served as the Senior Advisor of FIBRE, the umbrella organization for the eight Canadian forest industry, university networks. McDonald is a fellow of both TAPPI and PAPTAC and has received many awards including the TAPPI Engineering Division Award as well as the highest technical awards from PAPTAC, the John Bates Gold Medal and from TAPPI,  the Gunnar Nicholson Gold Medal.

Yulin Deng

Dr. Deng is a Professor and the James C. Barber Faculty Fellow in Chemical Engineering and Renewable Bioproducts Institute at Georgia Institute of Technology.  He received a B.S. in Chemistry, Northeast Normal University, China (1982) and a Ph.D. in Polymer Chemistry, Manchester University, UK (1992).  He was Postdoctoral Research Fellow at McMaster University, Canada from 1992-1995.

Dr. Deng has engaged in Pulp and Paper and lignocellulose research for more than 30 years. He was the recipient of the AIChE Forest Bioproducts Division Andrew Chase Award in 2013. He was also an elected Fellow of American Institute of Chemical Engineering (2018) and Fellow of the International Academy of Wood Science (IAWS) (2013).  

Dr. Deng has published 275 peer reviewed papers, including TAPPI Journal and Journal of Pulp Paper Science.  He also has published many high impact fundamental research papers including Nature energy, Nature communications, Energy & Environmental Science, etc. He published one e-book, 8 book chapters, and received 4 patents. His publications have been highly cited by the broad scientific community.
